YouTube has launched "Super Thanks", a new way for fans to pay for a tip to their favorite creators. The
Super Thanks are available for $2, $5, $10 and $50, or the equivalent in your local currency.
When a fan buys a Super Thanks, they see a celebratory animation, and a highlighted "Thanks" comment is posted on the video. You can see what that looks like here.
Super Chat and Super Stickers are similar, but those are limited to live chats. Super Thanks - formerly called Viewer Applause - lets a fan tip on your videos on demand.
Super Thanks Policies
YouTube's policies make clear that Super Thanks is not a tool for crowdfunding, donations or fundraising.
You must also comply with YouTube's Community Guidelines, Terms of Service and monetization policies.
It is not available on videos that are:
- Age-restricted
- Unlisted
- Private
- Made for kids
- Videos with Content ID claims
- Videos with YouTube Giving fundraisers
- Live streams or Premieres, while live
How to give Super Thanks
1. Click the Thanks button under the video player
2. Select an amount
3. Confirm your payment (which uses Google Pay)
4. YouTube automatically posts a highlighted "Thanks!" comment on your behalf. The message cannot be customized.
A channel that currently has this feature is psychic Nicholas Ashbaugh, if you want to see what it looks like.
Check to see if Super Thanks are available on your channel
Super Thanks is currently in beta, and available to a limited number of channels in the YouTube Partner Program.
You can check to see if Super Thanks is available on your monetized channel:
1. Sign in to YouTube Studio (studio.youtube.com)
2. Click Monetization on the left menu
3. Click the Supers tab
Or go directly to studio.youtube.com/channel/UC/monetization/supers
If Super Thanks is enabled for your channel:
- You can find your Super Thanks earnings in your YouTube Analytics Transactions Report.
- You can use the Super Thanks filter in YouTube Studio Comments to find the comments, and reply or remove them (if you want).
This is what the Supers tab looks like if it's not available on your channel yet. As it says:
"Rest assured, it's coming soon! You'll be notified in your YouTube Studio dashboard when you have access."

Announcement: Introducing the newest member of the Supers family
Hello, Peggy. Thanks for your article.
ReplyDeleteI have seen my YouTube Studio and I don't have this option yet. I hope have it soon!
Do you know if "Super thanks" requires a minimal number of subscriptions? Obviously, 1000 subscriptions, to apply YPP, but... more than 1000?
Kind regards from MedellÃn, Colombia. And I apologise for my English skills, I am practising and impoving :)
Your English seems fine to me! As far as I know, the only requirement is that your channel is in the YouTube Partner Program. That's the requirement for Super Chat and Super Stickers, which I would expect to be the same. Info here.
