Creator Weekly: YouTube Stories, WordPress Turns 20, AI in Search

Monday is Memorial Day in the US, honoring those who died while serving in the US military. A bit incongruously, it’s also the unofficial start of summer, with backyard BBQs, and, of course, so many sales. If you’re in the US, I hope you can have a short remembrance of those who died, before your celebration of summer with friends and family. This week YouTube announced that Stories will be going away in June (having never left beta), there are more AI-based image editing tools, Google demoed ads in the new AI search results (so many ads!), WordPress turned 20 and more. Creator Weekly: Google Inactive Account Policy, AdSense Consent Management Platform requirement, YouTube Shopping

This week there are a bunch of updates for YouTubers, Instagrammers, web publishers, writers and more. Of particular note are Google’s new policy on inactive accounts (they may delete them), AdSense Consent Management Platform requirements, new tools to set up Shopping on your YouTube videos and more. Last week , Google announced “ Duet AI ”, with generative AI integrated with Google Workspace products. I just got access to the “help me write” AI in Gmail and Docs. I may write it up with more details next week, but my first impression is that it’s an interesting tool, but not ready for real work (yet). You can sign up to try it here . Creator Weekly: Google I/O, AI Everywhere, Simplified Pinterest

Happy Mother’s Day weekend! 🌹 This week was Google I/O, Google’s big developer conference, which was a showcase of how Google is integrating AI across its products and services. Most of the new features won’t be available for a while, but there are a few you can try today (if available in your country). Read on for details! Plus there’s more non-Google news and updates for video creators, writers, social media users and more. Subscribe to get the Creator Weekly by email. Note: Last week’s newsletter may have ended up in your spam folder marked as possibly malicious. I suspect it was the discussion and links for passkeys that may have triggered that. Apologies! It was great having a discussion with an engaged audience! Sign up for Google I/O and the Google Workspace Summit Google I/O is more than just a developer summit.
