Creator Weekly: Google Podcasts, Reddit Contributors, Meta AI

I sometimes feel like everything is about AI, as all the big tech companies add generative AI features wherever they can squeeze them in. But that’s not all that’s happening this week. Reddit has a new Contributor program that lets you earn real money, Google will be shutting down Google Podcasts and Jamboard whiteboards next year, YouTube has more stats in Analytics and more. Easily create movies with the new YouTube Create app

The YouTube Create app is a new tool from YouTube that lets you easily create movies on your phone, tablet or Chromebook.  The app is currently in beta, is Android only, and available to creators in India, Singapore, US, UK, France, Germany, South Korea, and Indonesia. This is a pretty full-featured video editing tool. Some highlights:  Use the app on your Android phone, tablet, or Chromebook (if you have Android apps installed). Note that it might be difficult to use on a Chromebook that does not have a touch screen. While you can use the app on multiple devices, it does not sync across devices. Make videos that are vertical, landscape or square. Import images and videos that are on your device. It does not have import from Google Photos or Google Drive. Video clips and images can be rotated, cropped and trimmed for length.  Add effects (similar to effects in the Shorts editor) and transitions.

10 Years of Creator Tutorials and News!

It’s hard to believe it, but 10 years have passed since I launched what is now Peggy K's Creator News. I set up the blog originally as a place to post easily linkable tutorials on the integration of Google+ and YouTube. It was pretty confusing and the ins and outs were not well docume, nted in Google’s help centers, so this started as a reference guide. The first post on peggyktc.com was a tutorial on how to unlink your YouTube channel from Google+ and how to create a channel using something other than your real name. What’s in a (domain) name? I chose the peggyktc.com domain for this blog to give my main Google+ Page a memorable custom URL, which was based on the linked domain. PeggyK(dot)com was sadly already taken, and no, that Peggy K is not me. The “TC” referred to the fact I was a “Top Contributor” in the Google Help Communities. And I still am, although it’s Google Product Experts now. I eventually added more tutorials about using Google+ (even withou

Creator Weekly: AdSense Site Management, WordPress in the Fediverse, Adobe Firefly out of beta

It’s finally starting to feel like fall. Leaves won’t change here in the SF Bay Area for a while, but the air is crisper. It’s my favorite season. This week there aren’t any major updates. But there are a number of smaller changes for web publishers, song writers, image creators and more. My top updates include better Sites management in AdSense, Adobe Firefly graduating out of beta, WordPress blogs joining the fediverse, and exploring the Data Commons. Creator Weekly: YouTube Monetization Ad Settings, New Clubhouse Chat, Pinterest Diversity

A busy week this week! There are a bunch of updates for YouTube creators, web publishers and more. YouTube is changing the ad controls for monetizing channels (and launching new features that non-monetizing creators can access too), AdSense wants publishers to add a GDPR message; there are updates for web publishers in WordPress and Search, social audio platform Clubhouse is pivoting to chat, new video call features in Zoom and Meet and more. This makes me feel old: Google turned 25 this month (with 25 years of Search milestones ) and Chrome turned 15. Happy Birthday Google!
