Creator Weekly: Meta Community Notes, Facebook Stories Monetization, YouTube Monetizatoin

Spring is in the air! I’ve been thinking about this year’s garden, contemplating a spring cleaning project (although I usually don’t get far beyond the thinking part) and hoping for a week of sunshine so my favorite hike is less muddy. This week I live streamed about my 15 years (!) as a Google Product Expert and I shared some cool swag I received from YouTube. Thanks for stopping by and saying hello! This week’s big update is Meta testing Community Notes (which I’m skeptical of), with additional updates from YouTube, Facebook, Bluesky, Reddit and more. Plus more Gemini features and tools across Google. 📨 Subscribe to get Creator Weekly by email. Top news and updates this week Meta is testing Community Notes in the US for Facebook , Instagram and Threads , to replace 3rd party fact checkers. YouTube Creator Collective events are happening in all US states. Sign up today! YouTube shared additional information about the mid-roll ad changes that will go into effect in May. Y...

AdSense Identity Verification for YouTube Monetization and Payments

AdSense for YouTube must be connected to your YouTube channel to enable monetization and be paid. In most countries, you are required to verify both your identity and your mailing address in your AdSense account.  Make sure your  Payee name and address  are correct in your AdSense account before you start the verification process. You will not be able to change the account Payee name after identity verification is completed. If you fail to complete verification by the deadline (45 days for identity verification and 4 months for address verification with a PIN ), monetization will be disabled and your AdSense account may be suspended. Note that if you use both AdSense for YouTube and AdSense for Content (ads on your own website), you only need to go through verification once. This is an overview of the AdSense Identity Verification process.  Watch a short video overview , or read on for details.  ...

It’s that time again! Here are my top YouTube updates in 2024. Just about every year since I started my weekly creator recap I have rounded up the biggest changes for YouTube and other Google products. It turns out 2024 was a big year! Note that YouTube is constantly running tests. I mention a few in my summary, but I have mostly focused on features that have launched. Creator Features YouTube Shorts Live Streaming YouTube on TV AI-Powered Features Podcasts Community Guidelines and Policy Updates Monetization My top updates feed right into the Creator Trends for 2024 and into 2025. The new thumbnail test and compare tool i n YouTube Studio. My 2025 wish? Title testing too. The Community tab being made available to all channels, and expanded testing of new Community features. Hopefully the new Communities will be more widely available i...

2024 Creator Trends

2024 is finally coming to a close, and 2025 promises to be an interesting year. The tech companies are (mostly) quiet this week, and so I wanted to use this opportunity to share my 2024 highlights and then take a look at trends from 2024 that I think will continue through 2025. You can find my personal 2024 recap here . Here are the things I’ve been noodling on: 2004 was "the beginning of the future", will 2024 stand out 20 years from now? AI in everything, but at whose expense? Fan support: Paid subscriptions and communities The open social web versus walled gardens Creating videos for the little screen (phones) and big screen (TVs) I plan a more traditional “here’s what happened” recap for next week. What will we remember in 20 years? 2004 was an exciting year in tech. We didn’t know it at the time, but huge chunks of the internet we use today were launched 20 years ago. Facebook , Gmail , and Firefox all launched that year. You coul...
