How to embed video uploaded to Google Photos on your website or blog

Google Photos lets you easily back up your photos and videos, and share them to Google+, Facebook, Twitter or to anyone who has the link. But sometimes you want to post your videos on your blog or website.

You can import your Google Photos videos to the YouTube channel associated with your account, then embed the YouTube video.  But before you do that first consider YouTube's content policies - if your video doesn't comply, don't import it!

So how can you embed your Google Photos video on your own website without uploading it to YouTube? Google does not offer a direct way to do that, but you can access your Google Photos video in Google Drive and embed it from there.

Note: this only works to embed your own Google Photos videos or videos shared with you via Google Drive. As of July 10, 2019, Google Photos will no longer automatically sync photos and videos with Google Drive. Any images that were synced from Google Photos before that date will remain in Drive. After that date, you will have to upload your videos to Google Drive directly.

How to embed a Google Photos video on your blog or website

  1. Upload or backup your video to Google Photos (see video upload limitations)
OR upload your videos to Google Drive
  2. Sign in to Google Drive (drive.google.com) on your desktop computer with the same email you use to sign in to Google Photos
  3. Find the video you want to embed
  4. Set who can see your video: Click the 3 dot "More Actions" icon at top right, and then Share.  . You can make the video visible to the Public or Anyone with the link in Advanced settings.
  5. Open the video in a new window: Click the 3 dot More actions menu icon at top right, and from the menu select Open in new window
  6. Find the Embed code: When the video has opened in its own window click the 3 dot More actions icon at top right, then select Embed item...
  7. Copy the embed code
  8. Paste the embed code into the HTML of your website or blog

1. Upload or backup your video to Google Photos

Videos can be up to 10GB, and videos uploaded as High Quality will be reduced to 1080p if higher resolution (see video upload limitations).

Note: if you want to embed a Movie created in the Google Photos app you must download the video, then re-upload the video to Google Photos or Google Drive.

How to download - then upload - a Google Photos movie creation
ii. Click the video so it opens full page
iii. Click the 3 dot menu icon at top right
iv. Select "Download video"

v. Once the video is downloaded you can then upload it to Google Drive (or to Google Photos again).

Note: if you have backed up or directly uploaded your video to Google Drive already, then you do not need to download and upload again.

2. Sign in to Google Drive (drive.google.com) on your desktop computer

Be sure to sign in with the same email you use to sign in to Google Photos.

3. Find the video you want to share and click it.

Google Photos photos and images are automatically accessible in Google Drive.

You can easily find all your videos that are in your Drive account, whether they were uploaded via Google Photos or directly to Drive.

4. Set who can see your video.

The video will only be visible to the people you have shared it with. If you want the public to be able to see your video, you can set that as well:

i. Click the 3 dot More Actions menu icon at top right, then click Share

ii. Click Advanced

iii. Next to Private - only you can access click Change

iv. Select On - Public on the web or Anyone with the link        (either should work to view the embeded video on your website or blog)

v. Click Save
vi. Click Done

Now anyone should be able to view your video.

5. Open the video in a new window

Click the 3 dot More Actions icon  at top right, and from the menu select Open in new window

This will open the video in its own tab.

6. Find the embed code

When the video has opened in its own window click the 3 dot More actions icon

Select Embed item...

7. Copy the embed code

Highlight the embed code to copy it.

8. Paste the embed code on your website or in a blog post

Note that if you are embedding your video in a Blogger blog post, you should be sure you have the blog post editor to HTML mode, not Compose mode when you paste in the embed code.

And here you have it!

Note that movies created in Google Photos are not usually automatically visible in Google Drive - I uploaded this video to my Google Photos directly. See above for instructions for how to do that.

  4. This does not work when playing on mobile devices. https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/drive/gnqoiyYVVUk

I think the best thing to do is upload to youtube and use the much better supported embed options there.
