The new simplified FeedBurner has no Publicize features

FeedBurner's "non-core feed management features" are finally shutting down. In addition to the RSS to email service, they are also turning off tools to publicize your blog, including BuzzBoost, Summary Burner and the Headline Animator.  What appears to be the new simplified FeedBurner interface is occasionally loading for me, and with that access to the Publicize, Optimize, and Analyze services is gone. This change has been in the works for more than a year. Back in April 2021, FeedBurner announced  that as part of a migragration to a "more stable, modern infrastructure", they would would be shutting off its RSS to email service and going into "maintenance mode". There was an update in March of this year that said that the announced migration would be completed "in the coming weeks".  That shutdown has taken a lot longer than I expected, with emails of my new posts being delivered as recently as this morning...

Alternatives to FeedBurner's RSS to Email Service (Subscribe to my new newsletter!)

Update December 2022: My Creator Weekly newsletter is now on Beehiiv. Subscribe here . You can now subscribe to my new Weekly Newsletter email at Revue. If you are reading this in your email account, please subscribe to the new version, as FeedBurner-managed email will be stopping imminently. Since FeedBurner announce the demise of their RSS to Email function, I've been struggling to figure out where to host the email version of my Weekly Update .  After some experimentation and research, I've decided to use the Revue newsletter platform.  Note: Joke's on me, Revue is shutting down January 18, 2023. I have moved the newsletter to Beehiiv.  See the update at the bottom of this post for more information about the platform. This is not an automated RSS to email service. Each newsletter is manually created by me. That is a bit more work, but Revue lets me import a post from blog's RSS feed with just a click, which is very easy. And it has a...

Remove the Follow by Email gadget from your Blogger blog

FeedBurner will be shutting off its RSS feed to email service in July. This service powers Blogger's Follow by Email gadget which will also stop working. If you want to stop people from continuing to sign up to receive your blog posts by email via FeedBurner, you can remove or hide the gadget from your blog's Layout, or hide the gadget in the Theme Designer. Note that you will not be able to reactivate or add back the gadget once it is deactivated. You will be able to download your blog's email subscriber list from your FeedBurner account even after you have removed the Follow by Email Gadget. When (and if) you choose a new email service you can add a link or subscribe button by adding the code to a HTML/Javascript gadget.  Remove the "Follow By Email" gadget in your blog's Layout 1. Sign in to your Blogger account ( www.blogger.com ) and make sure you are viewing the correct blog. You can switch blogs by clicking the blog n...

Blogger Follow by Email widget is going away: export your email subscriber list from FeedBurner

FeedBurner has announced that it will no longer support email subscriptions as of July 2021. As FeedBurner powers Blogger's FollowByEmail gadget, that will also stop working.  FeedBurner is a free Google service that let you customize your RSS feeds. It currently also provides feed analytics and - notably - has an RSS to Email service, emailing new posts in your feed to your subscribers.  FeedBurner was founded in 2004 and acquired by Google in 2007, almost 14 years ago. The Blogger FollowByEmail gadget was launched in 2011. That means many bloggers have a blog email list that is decade old.  Some of you are reading this post in an email. I haven't figured out an alternative email platform, but I will make an announcement when I do and you will be given the option to re-subscribe. I expect it's going to be a painful transition to a new platform. Watch the video for a brief overview and tutorial on how to export your email subs...

2019 Year in Review: Blogger Gets Mobile

Blogger turned 20 this year . While blogs may seem so last decade, Blogger has  outlived Google+ , and is getting a much needed mobile-friendly interface update.  And FeedBurner, currently used to manage Blogger's email subscriptions, has been updated with the removal of some outdated features. It's very nice to see updates, even if they are minor ones. There have also been a number of Google webmaster updates, including retirement of the old Search Console .  Blogger and the shutdown of Google+ While Blogger and Google+ were separate platforms, many Blogger blogs used Google+ features, such as Google+ comments and a  Google+ Profile  as their author profile. Those were default options for some time, so many users may have had those Google+ features enabled, even if they didn't use Google+ itself as a social media site. With the shutdown of consumer Google+ scheduled for April, many users were taken by surprise when it was ann...

Weekly Update - November 30, 2019: Google Photos, StreamYard, Contract for the Web

While this holiday week has been mostly quiet here in the US (other than the flood of emails promoting Black Friday Deals), there are a few updates for photographers, YouTubers, live streamers and more. FeedBurner sent out a notice to users who still have a feed in an old legacy FeedBurner account. Any such feeds need to be moved to a Google account before the end of the year.As the original deadline was February 2009, that doesn’t seem unreasonable. During the migration process it’s suggested the feed be set up for AdSense for Feeds; note that isn’t actually possible, as AdSense for Feeds has not been available since late 2012. The Google Photos mobile app’s image editor now has a basic markup tool that lets you draw lines, highlight and add text to your photos. Google Photos is also rolling out a manual face tagging tool (yay!), but there is a limitation: Google needs to detect a face before you can add a name. If you upload your photos to Flickr, you can submit your best ...
