Secure your Google Account today so you can access it tomorrow

To celebrate 10 years of Creator Weekly, I’m sharing tech highlights from 2015 that still resonate 10 years later. This update was for the week ending June 6, 2015.

In 2015 Google launched an account hub where you could "control, protect, and secure your account, all  in one place."

My "My Account" page in 2015 (yes, I keep screenshots of everything)

Ten years ago this week Google launched the "My Account" site at myaccount.google.com.

This was a central hub for your account settings, history, privacy tools and security tools.

As Google put it, "My Account gives you quick access to the settings and tools that let you safeguard your data, protect your privacy, and decide how your information can make Google tools and services work better for you."
  • Privacy Checkup
  • Security Checkup
  • Manage your history for Search, Maps, YouTube and other products.
  • Ads Settings to help control the Google ads you see.
  • Control third party apps and sites connected to your Google Account.

The View from 2025: My Account is still the hub for Google Account privacy and security settings

The Google My Account hub today.

Over the past 10 years the Google Account "My Account" hub has been rearranged a bit, had a design refresh, and settings have been added. But it’s still effectively the same as it was when it launched a decade ago: your destination for managing the security, privacy and profile of your Google Account.

Sign in to myaccount.google.com today and review your settings!

1. Take the Google Account Security Checkup

2. Make sure your recovery phone number and recovery email are up-to-date. If you haven't added recovery options, do that now.

3. Set up 2-step verification for more security. Make sure you have a copy of your backup codes in a secure place (go check now!), and not stored on a device that you have to sign in to your Google Account to access.

4. Disconnect any third party apps or services you are no longer using.

5. Run a Privacy Checkup.

6. Explore your profile, history and other settings to make sure everything is up-to-date.

Make your account as secure as it can be, so you won’t lose access to anything important to you today, tomorrow or 10 years from now.
