Sharing Your YouTube videos from a Google+ Page: Videos missing? Change your default channel.

It's easy to share a video from your YouTube channel on Google+. Simply choose the "Video" sharing option, switch to "Your YouTube videos" and select an upload from the list.

Sounds straightforward, right? Unfortunately it sometimes doesn't work as expected:  your channel's video uploads may not be listed there - or worse, the videos from the wrong channel are displayed.  To fix that, you need to set the default channel for 3rd party applications your YouTube account. Read on for more detailed instructions.

Keep in mind:

Transfer ownership of your legacy YouTube channel to a different Google account: Link to a Google+ Page

Update 17 March 2015: now you can move your Google+-connected channel to a different Google+ Profile or Page. Learn how to move your channel here: Transfer you YouTube channel to a different Google+ Profile or Page

Until this week, most YouTube channels that were created before May 2009 - so-called "legacy" accounts - could be moved from one Google account to another. Now YouTube is providing a different option: link your YouTube channel to a Google+ Page, and transfer ownership of that Page to the new owner's account.

Linking to Google+ and the YouTube "Not Eligible to Create an Account" error: the cause and the fix

Did you recently link your YouTube channel to a Google+ Page and suddenly see an error message that says "you are not eligible to create an account"?

The only solution is to sign into your YouTube channel's linked Google+ Page directly, with the Page's username and password.

Inserting your YouTube videos into Blogger posts after linking your channel to Google+: a fix for missing videos

Have you recently linked your YouTube channel to a Google+ Page and discovered that suddenly you can no longer insert your videos in to a Blogger blog post?  Have you found that when you select the option to insert a video from "My YouTube videos" all your videos have disappeared?

There is a fix for that!  What you need to do is sign into your YouTube account's advanced settings and set the default to the channel that you want to insert videos from. Read on for more detailed instructions.

How to set the default channel for your YouTube account after linking to Google+

Note: on June 3, 2014 YouTube introduced an easier method for setting a default channel. Now you can either set the default channel when you sign in to YouTube, or you can go to the advanced settings for the channel you want to be the default to set that channel as the default.

When you link your YouTube channel to a Google+ Page, the YouTube channel is moved from it's original Google account to the Google+ Page's special subsidiary Google account.  You can switch between your different YouTube accounts after signing in, but if you use third party video editing software like iMovie or Premiere, live video broadcasting tools like Wirecast, or some mobile applications or gameconsoles to access your YouTube channel, you may run into a problem.

Many of those third party applications and devices are unable to switch between YouTube channels. What means is that you need to set the default channel for those apps in you…

How to switch between YouTube channels after linking to a Google+ Page

There have been a number of reports in the YouTube help forum from users who were shown a prompt asking them to update their channel who found that after choosing the option to keep their username they can no longer find their video uploads, playlists or favorites. It usually turns out their old channel hasn't disappeared, but rather is just a bit trickier to get to: what has happened is that they've linked their YouTube channel to a Google+ Page.

When a YouTube channel is linked to a Google+ Page, the channel is moved to the Google+ Page's special Google account. That means that the original Google account you used to sign into your YouTube channel can be used to create a new YouTube channel linked to your Google+ Profile.
You can then switch between the YouTube channel linked to your Google+ Page and the YouTube channel linked to your Google+ Profile.
There are several ways to switch between your YouTube channels:
1. Select the YouTube channel you would like to use fro…

Help! How do I contact YouTube support?

Are you having trouble signing into YouTube, linking your channel to Google+, configuring your account or setting up monetization? Are you frustrated, confused, angry?

Fortunately there are a number of different help resources for YouTube users, including contact forms, forums and Google+ communities, but it can be confusing to try to figure out which one to use.

Here's a brief guide to help you figure out where to get assistance with your YouTube account issue:

What does it mean when "YouTube is updating your channel's account" and how do you decline?

If you have been using YouTube for a while, and your YouTube channel is not currently linked to Google+, you have almost certainly seen popups that encourage you to link your YouTube channel to a Google+ Profile or Google+ Page.

There are several different popup prompts that you might be shown. A common prompt says "YouTube is updating your channel's account" and offers you choices for linking your YouTube channel to a Google+ Page, rather than a Google+ Profile.

So what do the options on the YouTube is updating your channel's accountmean? And how do decline the change?

What does it mean when YouTube offers you "New choices for your channel name" and how do you decline?

If your YouTube channel is currently unlinked from Google+, from time to time when you are using YouTube you will see a popup that prompts to update your YouTube channel identity.

If you do not wish to currently update your YouTube channel identity, you can decline that option.

How you do that depends on exactly which prompt you are shown. See the examples below for more information on what the various choices mean and how you can at least temporarily dismiss the popup.

The first example is a popup that is titled New choices for your channel name
You likely will only see this prompt if you are not using Google+ on your YouTube channel's Google account.

How to link your YouTube channel to a Google+ Page

Update June 2014: If your channel is connected to a Google+ Profile, and you do not have the option to disconnect your channel from Google+ you will need to contact YouTube support to move your channel to a Google+ Page.

If you do not want to use your real name for your YouTube channel, but you do want to link your YouTube channel to Google+, you'll need to link your channel to a Google+ Page, rather than a Google+ Profile .

If your YouTube channel is currently linked to a Google+ Profile, the first step is unlinking your YouTube channel from Google+.

Once your YouTube channel is unlinked from your Google+ Profile, you can link a Google+ Page:
Go to your YouTube channel's advanced settings to start the Google+ Page linking process:

How to unlink your new YouTube channel from a Google+ Profile

Note: as of November 2015, as long as you use your Google account name (aboutme.google.com) your channel is already disconnected form Google+. Learn more in the YouTube Help Center.

Note: as of January 9, 2014 this process will NOT work for newly created YouTube channels connected to a Google+ Profile or channels that have been connected to Google+ for longer than 14 days. If you don't want to use your real name on YouTube, you can ask YouTube support to disconnect your channel from your Google+ Profile and connect it to an existing Google+ Page instead.
